East Boldre Kids Internet Art Gallery

Do you want to see some of your artwork on the Internet?

Your artwork can be posted on the East Boldre Village Website for everyone to admire.  We can even get local people to vote for their favourite picture.

You can:

ü Draw it directly on your computer using your favourite art program

ü Work on paper then scan it in (paintings, sketches, collages’, etc.)

ü Make a sculpture or model and send in a photo of it

ü Send in an artistic photo

ü Or you can produce a picture by combining some or all of these methods.

For security reasons, we will not put your full name on the Internet but tell us your age and the name you like to be known by.  We will display your art with names like Charlotte age 10 or nicknames such as Lottie age 10 if you prefer.

Tell all your friends about this.  The offer is open to everyone.

And tell your parents we are having a village photography competition that is open to all ages.  Look at the Have Your Say page for the photo competition.

Hints and Tips

Photographs

Digital photographs should be sent as JPEG (.jpg) files. They should also be reduced in size to either 800x600 pixels or 1024x768 pixels. You can do this in any photo-editing program such as photoshop. If you use Vista, the Photo and Fax Viewer will do it. Load your picture into the Photo Viewer then click on the e-mail button at the top. Choose the size you want then click on the Attach button.

Scanning Images

Scanners can produce huge files that take ages to send by e-mail. One inch (2.5 cm) of a computer screen is 100 pixels wide. We say the screen has a resolution of 100 dots per inch (100 DPI). Since your art will be viewed on a screen, there is no point in scanning it at higher resolutions. So before you scan your picture, set up your scanner to use a resolution of 100 DPI and make sur it is saved as a JPEG (.jpg) file.

If your picture is larger than A4 and your scanner cannot do larger sizes, it might be better to take a digital photo of your work instead.

Using Computer Art Packages

If you draw your picture on the computer, make sure you save the final picture as a JPEG (.jpg) file. You can usually do this using an Export Image option from the File menu. If you don’t convert it to a JPEG, some web browsers might not be able to display it.

Send your image as an e-mail attachment to

The image should be saved as a jpeg (.jpg) file and it should be no larger than 2MB. Scroll down the page for help on how to do this.
